2017年11月14日，美国专利局宣布将对202项的专利申请官费进行调整，调整范围几乎涵盖所有类型的专利申请，而且同样适用于通过海牙协定注册的外观设计申请。而上一次如此规模的调整收费标准还是在2013年。
生效时间：
新的官费生效时间为2018年1月16日。
调整目的：
本次官费调整旨在使USPTO的运营收支平衡，维持正常运转，提高审查质量，从而向申请人提供更优质的服务、进一步解决专利审查的积压问题。
据USPTO的2017年度财务报表数据显示，USPTO在2012财政年（Fiscal Year）时下发第一个OA的时间平均需要21.9个月，案件积压量为608283。截止到2016财政年（Fiscal Year），下发第一个OA的时间已经缩短到16.2个月，案件积压量减少到537655。

另外，关于生物类的专利申请需要注意，如果提交的专利文件在300-800MB，官费为USD 1000。如果专利文件超过了800MB，官费为USD 10000。在此次调整前，USPTO并未对此项收取过官费。
需特别注意的是：申请人需要依法缴纳官费，任何以不正当行为骗取获得小（微）实体资格或以小（微）实体标准进行缴费的行为均被视为尝试对官方进行欺诈行为。
